Hello everybody and welcome to the ignite summer lunch program web and RI am and Regan and I'm Taylor Gray and were interns with the summer session Department at Georgia Tech.
So what is ignite? Ignite is an opportunity for incoming first year students to start their time at Georgia Tech during the summer semester. Instead of the fall semester. In addition, ignite aims to provide both an academic and social transition to college, and more specifically, life here, Georgia Tech. Academically, students will be able to take several courses for course credit, which will assist them in their degree completion.
Some of the courses as well as additional at Co curricular activities will be centered around themes which we refer to as tracks and will get more will get into more specific details about all these things as we move through this presentation.
So program options, one of the first choices students will have to make ipon entering the ignite program will be to either be apart of the living learning community or the summer exploration community as part of either community. Students will take 6 to 7 credit hours and will be able to participate in Co curricular activities throughout the program. Students in the Living Learning Community Community will be required to live on campus. Students in this community will live in either Glenn or tower residence halls, which are both located on East campus.
Both residence halls are traditional style residence halls with shared bathrooms on each floor. Students in the living learning community will be required to have one of ignites meal plan options. These options will be outlined on a later slide.
In addition, students in this community will have access to leadership opportunities within the residence halls.
Students in the summer exploration community will not be required to live on campus and are not required to have a meal plan. However, they may elect to have a meal plan if they so choose.
So you're probably wondering what courses will be able to take during the summer, so as they before during ignite, each student will take 3 courses, amounting to six to Seven credit hours of towards the students degree. Students will select two course of their choice from the classes offered during ignite. The most of these options fulfill course requirements, or an important prerequisite for another class here at Tech. Some examples of courses students may be taking our English health chemistry as well as a variety of Humanities and social science courses. In addition, students will also take a GT1000 course. GT 1000 is a first year seminar course designed to help students.
Acclimate and transition to life your attack.
The class covers topics such as academic planning and career development. Each GT 1000 class will be themed towards each student selected track.
So to explain those tracks during ignite, each student in ignite will select attract. These tracks will theme each students GT1000GT1000 course as previously mentioned and there will be some Co curricular events. Each student will be able to pick the theme that they are most interested in by selecting one of our 7 tracks. These tracks are as follows. Analyzing Atlanta architecture and Design, Innovation, Leadership, Pre Health, Sustainable communities as well as undergraduate research.
As an example of some Co curricular events and activities last summer, the innovation track tord NCR's headquarters, which is located right here in midtown Atlanta, an sustainable communities toward Atlanta's beltline.
So to get into the cost of the summer.
The fees are all pretty much pizza. There is an activity for ignite that's around $200 and then you can save a little bit of money by opting Farquaad as opposed to traditional style housing. As we mentioned, poor those housing will be that housing will be located in Glena Towers.
As well as financial aid, going along with those costs. So instead of actually applying for the 2020-2021 a financial aid application, you'll apply for the year before as well as fill out the FAFSA for that year, so that's something. Definitely keep in mind if you're hoping to get financial aid, and again if you're from Georgia, hoping Zell Miller are available for the summer, but you have to fill out the according application as listed here.
Thanks so much for listening to our presentation. We hope to see you all in the summer. If you have any questions for us, please email us at summer@gatech.edu.
