All undergraduate degrees at Georgia Tech required 2 English composition courses totaling 6 semester credit hours. We require applicants to have these courses complete prior to their enrollment at Georgia Tech. These courses satisfied degree requirements, but also the English proficiency requirements set forth by our University system of Georgia.
Students missing a second English composition course may indicate an alternate course with an intensive writing component typically a 7 to 10. Page paper with at least 5 sided sources for review as a second English composition course.
This review will be completed by our English faculty once a student receives an offer of admission.
Student should be prepared to be able to provide a sample paper along with a course syllabus so that our English faculty can review. This alternate course to see if you can satisfy one of the 2 English composition requirements.
Soon, as may self report, Toefl scores on the online application. But these scores do not satisfy the English proficiency requirement by Georgia Tech.

Course requirements by major as part of the 30 semester or 45 quarter credit hour requirement. It is strongly recommended students complete the minimum course requirements for their intended major by the course requirement deadline.
A course requirement by Major chart is available online at transfergatech.edu.
Minimum course requirements for all majors include English composition 1 English composition 2 and calculus. One additional course requirements vary by Major Annalynne directly with degree requirements for these majors at Georgia Tech.
Be sure to reference the course requirement by Major chart for these additional course requirements. Let's take a look at the chart and review an exam.
Here is the location of the course requirement by Major chart on our transfer website online@transfergatech.edu.
Once you have selected the course requirements chart. It is important to note that op highlighted portion of the chart. All majors require coursework equivalent to English, 1101, eleven 02 an calculus one.
The forward slash or the course title and number means or to fulfill the calculus 2 requirement, you will need a course equivalent to math, 1502 or math, 1552.
In terms of our current course numbers for math. They're 1551 and 1552. But if you look at our transfer equivalency. Table 1501 or 1502. Maybe the equivalent at the time in which you took the course, so definitely refer to our equivalency table For more information.
By selecting a degree program you will be taken to the degree requirements page for that specific major so in the picture. You see the arrow, pointing to bio medical engineering. If you click on that bio medical engineering in the chart. It is interactive and will take you directly to the degree requirements for that major within our Georgia Tech Catalog.
By selecting one of the courses you will be taken to the course description for that course within the Georgia Tech catalog so you see the one arrow, highlighting English composition 11 at one, you can select that one any of the three up at the Top or any of the additional courses listed horizontally calculus. 2 Biology Chem. One you can choose any of those click on them and they'll take you directly to those course descriptions within our catalog.
An example of meeting the 2 core sequences biology, one and biology 2 or chemistry won an chemistry 2.
So for example, if you're looking at.
The major biology on the chart you will see that In addition to English, 11. One 1102 and calculus. One it has a calculus 2 requirement as well as 2 lab science courses and those 2 lab science courses must be a sequence so that means it would be a biology. One and biology to the two shaded blocks does not mean just a biology one lecture and the lab that goes with it is 2.
Separate biology courses, I'll be it. I know a lot of institutions may separate the lecture. In the lab a lab Sciences considered lecture and lab together all in one Georgia Tech when you look at our equivalency table. The credit will be awarded on the lab, especially for or at colleges where the lecture is one course or working coin course number in the lab is a different one please. Make sure you reference. This course requirement chart for your specific major.
So if you know you need a 2 course sequence on the lab Sciences or at 2 courses is not required.
An example where 2 lab Sciences are a sequence is not required refer to the business administration major where you see the shaded blocks with a slash in between. That means you have an optional sequence. You can take biology one in chemistry, one or if you want you can take.
Do the same discipline it would be up to you.
Now let's talk about application review factors at Georgia Tech. We use a partner based review model to perform a holistic review once our office receives a complete transfer application.
As part of our partner based review model 2 staff members simultaneously read each transfer application.
Afterwards, they summarize their impressions for each other and talk about the big picture your strengths weaknesses commitment to progress in service and overall fit with the tech community. This two member team that makes a recommended decision and most applications were in a second, third, or even 4th review from a final committee before a decision is reached.
Academic major students have the opportunity to select one of 35 majors of study on the transfer application, there is not an option for a secondary major any offer of transformation from Georgia Tech is specific to the major and term listed on the application, there is not a separate application. Once a student receives an offer of transfer admission to be able to get into a specific major in Georgia Tech that offer of admission is specific to the major you listed on the application.
Students are not able to change their major once the transfer application has been submitted.
And we also have a change of major page on our mission website for review in terms of changing your major once you become a student as a transfer student that can be very challenging. Especially with in high volume high capacity majors, especially within the College of engineering and the College of computing.
Official academic transcripts must be received by the document deadline of the application term. You see those on the right side of the slide. The document deadline for fall is April 1. Actually, April 15th for spring. It is a October 1 and for summer. It is February 1. The document deadline is not the same and it separate from the application deadline. So, please do not confuse the document deadline with the application deadline official academic transcripts provides a picture of your academic preparation.
And performance we review course work for each term, an across institutions to better understand the level of challenge and rigor that you have experienced enrollment gaps or extenuating circumstances can be out by within the on line application, there's an additional information section for that students can also list current and future term enrollment within the on line transfer application. If it is not listed on your official transcript such as your end progress course work if it's not on your transcript.
Or if you know what you're going to be taken over the next couple of terms. Then you can indicate that on your app. It is the applicant's responsibility to communicate any changes in course work after a transfer application has been submitted.
Course requirements by major.
We've already reviewed the chart, but we review official transcripts to confirm course requirements by major are complete or in progress competitive applicants demonstrate success within course requirements by Major and rigorous coursework overtime.
And students can indicate the course corresponding to each of the requirements within the online application. There's a prerequisite coursework section. It's kind of a grid format where you can put the course in the course number that you're using the satisfy the English 1101 English, 1102, Calc one. Calc 2 or the lab Sciences that may be required for your specific major that helps us to understand what you're intending to use for each of those course requirements and will reach out to you if you have any questions regarding any of that.
Contribution to community students often ask what makes a good application. Or they believe there are certain things, they need to list on their application. In reality, we really interested in learning? What you are passionate about and we value, the different interests are students bring to Georgia Tech.
Some traits we do value in this portion include commitment self motivation personal responsibility initiative leadership compassion for others, and entrepreneurism students have the opportunity to upload a one page contribution to community form with their online application.
We recommend a resume type format.
So it is easy to read and not in essay format.
The contribution of community portion is optional, but strongly recommended.
Personal essays, students complete 2 essays as part of the online transfer application. One essay is the same for everyone and focuses on the students intended major at Georgia Tech. The second essay topic is chosen by the student from 5 different essay prompts.
This portion of the application helps us to get to know you better assess is mutual fit and demonstrates your thoughtfulness so please take the time and make sure you put forth effort with the essays 'cause. We do read each and everyone and they can make a big difference in terms of.
Helping us understand what your goals are and just who you are as a person as well.
Student selecting a major within our College of Design had the option to complete an additional essay an uploaded design portfolio. This portion of the application is optional, but recommended these items are reviewed by our College of Design faculty as part of the transfer application review process.
Great point average multiple GPA reviews are completed as part of our holistic review process an overall GPA review includes course work taken at all previous institutions domestic and International.
A math and lab science, GPA review includes calculus level.
Calculus level and higher math as well as lab science courses.
So what will do is we will calculate at math and lab science, GPA for every application and that math lab, science, GPA will only include calculus level and higher math and those lab science courses, which must be at least 4 semester credit hours so lecture and lab.
A lab science course includes lecture and lab components again totaling at least 4 semester credit hours if you're on a quarter credit system that needs to be at least 6 quarter credit units lab science disciplines include Biology, Chemistry Physics and some earth and atmospheric science courses.
The next slide will provide a transfer credit overview.
The Georgia Tech catalog is the official resource for a transfer credit policy course descriptions and degree requirements for each major is a public resource and available online at catalogtech.edu.
The basic policies to allow credit for courses, completed with a C greater hire another accredited colleges and universities within the United States. Coursework completed at colleges and universities outside the US will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Georgia Tech does not award credit for correspondence, an clip test, but will honor it from your existing institution if it is on your official transcript.
Online coursework currently online versions of all lab science courses. International affairs psychology, economics and course is equivalent to history, 2111 and 2112 are not eligible for transfer credit consideration in most cases, math courses are not eligible as well unless sufficient documentation is provided to show that course exams were Proctor.
You can reviewer online transfer credit policy within the catalog or it's available at oscargatech.edu on our transfer equivalency page repeat coursework. A common question, we receive is how we view repeat coursework within our holistic review process and GPA calculations. We were view. Repeat coursework in line with our transfer credit policy. If a student has earned AC grade or higher in the course and then we do not recommend repeating that course since we are unable to provide double credit for the same.
If a student earns below AC grade than a repeat repeat attempt is necessary in order to earn transfer credit for the class in that case, we will average the courses together as part of the GPA calculation. But if you've already taken the course. He earned AC and he took it again and he made in a then we will only include the sea within our GPA calculations.
Official creditor valuation an official transfer credit evaluation is available once a student receives an offer of admission from Georgia Tech. Unfortunately, we are unable to manage the volume of requests that we get for transfer credit inquiries. Prior to an offer of admission transfer credit decisions are made by the faculty here at Georgia Tech and not undergraduate admission an largely not by the registrar's office as well. The Registrar's office and academic colleges serve as the main authority on transfer credit at Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech may require students to submit a credit evaluation request after admission our office will notify you via the admission portal for any credit evaluation request. One big tip. We recommend is that you keep all your course syllabi as this information may be required for a credit evaluation request.
Georgia Tech welcomes the opportunity to honor credit by exam awards you've received.
Current institution credit by exam sources include API, BS 82, and a level coursework. It is the student's responsibility to request credit by exam or advanced standing credit on their official transcript. The course name course code number of credit hours for each award must be on the official transcript for Georgia Tech to honor it. Essentially we need to see the course. The course number? How many credits at least our registrar's office needs to see that before we can actually.
Used as justification for a degree requirement course at Georgia Tech so if you have a transcript that just shows 22 hours for AP credit. We're not really able to issue you any transfer credit unless we know what comprises those 22 credit hours.
Most institutions list credit by example Ward by individual course, sometimes you have to go into the registrar's office to request it specifically.
If Georgia Tech is unable to see credit by example words on the official transcript in the student will be required to me credit by exam score set by George attack so whether it be a Peace Corps for credit or ID or S 82. Those score requirements vary college by college so again if it's not on the transcript. You would be required to meet our school requirements and maybe not the requirement of your current institution.
Keep in mind that credit by example words such as English, 1101 an calculus. One can transfer and they can also satisfy the minimum course requirements by major we're not going to ask you to take the course again. If you've already gotten credit for English, 11 at one BNAP Award. Whatever the case may be.
Credit by exam words can also be used to meet the 30 semester credit or 45 quarter credit hour application requirements. The only situation where that's not the case is through our transfer pathway programs and that would be a few of those that work with first year applicants who receive a second year offer be sure to review those pathway programs. 'cause they do have the stipulation that the 30 semester needs to be post. High school graduation while in this case if you're applying just as a regular transfer.
Or the pathway you can use AP credit to comprise the minimum 30 semester credit hour or 45 quarter credit our application requirement.
Transfer equivalency table.
The transfer equivalency table less all course work and institutions domestic and international currently evaluated for transfer created by George attack. It is available online at oscargatech.edu students concerts transfer credit by institution subject area and term.
Be sure to select the correct term.
See equivalent data for all terms when performing a search on the table, so you see the image of the initial introduction to our transfer equivalency table on the slide. Could you may see graduate there as an option as well and it's extremely important that you always select the C equivalent data from all terms option that is going to be the last option within that text box and make sure you scroll all the way down.
